Tunisia Renewable Energy Framework

Wednesday 5 July 2017 – 14:00 GST (Dubai Time)

The Government of Tunisia has announced ambitious renewable energy (RE) policy targets of 1,000 MW by 2020 and 2,500 MW by 2025. The corresponding legal framework has been described within Renewable energy law n°2015-12 adopted on May 11, 2015; completed by decree 2016-1123, adopted August 24, 2016. The main sources of energy concerned are wind and solar PV, while CSP and biomass are also mentioned. Three different regimes will coexist: the Concession, Authorization and Auto-production schemes.

The Authorization scheme was launched on May 11, 2017. It has been designed for projects, of up to 30 MW for wind and 10 MW for PV.  It should be noted that the Ministry of Energy, in its recent promotion of the Authorization program in international markets, have indicated that it will be executed as a competitive process rather than a Feed-in-Tariff.
